Plantar fasciitis is most commonly felt near the heel on the underside of your foot. It usually starts gradually for no obvious reason but is associated with poor foot biomechanics and increased weight bearing activities, such as prolonged standing or simply increasing your walking or running distance. You may need to see a podiatrist for specially made orthotic insoles to help correct your foot mechanics but off the shelf insoles may also help. Not everyone needs insoles and physiotherapy can help with strengthening, balance exercises, myofascial release and joint mobilisations. Extracoproreal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is very helpful in resolving plantar fasciitis. If you have plantar fasciitis, book an appointment with e-physiotherapy Edinburgh.
